Burke & Herbert Bank to Match Donations for Child Abuse Prevention Month
Bank Supports SCAN's Pinwheel Partner Program with Coin Drive
Alexandria, VA, April 5, 2016 – As a Pinwheel Partner, Burke & Herbert Bank will declare its support for Child Abuse Prevention Month by collecting and matching donations to SCAN of Northern Virginia up to $1,000, SCAN announced at its Allies in Prevention luncheon today. The pinwheel has been identified as the symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention.
All 25 of Burke & Herbert Bank's branches throughout Northern Virginia will accept coin donations from April 1–April 30. Large coin donations should be taken to branches with QuickChange machines where the normal fee will be waived for coins being donated. (Click here for a list of branches with QuickChange machines.)
"Protecting children in our community is everyone’s responsibility. More than 7,000 children were reported as abused or neglected in Northern Virginia alone just last year. Yet, we know how to make a difference. Supporting parents in positive parenting and protecting children from abuse and trauma are critical to setting up our next generation on a positive path to success," said Sonia Quinonez, SCAN's Executive Director. "That's why SCAN is thrilled to be partnering with Burke & Herbert Bank to raise awareness across Northern Virginia about the devastating consequences of child abuse and invest in programs that work right here in our own community."
"Burke & Herbert Bank is proud to be part of the network that advocates for children in our community. We’re offering a fairly simple way that everyone can contribute to bringing hope to every child. Find your coins, spare change, no matter how little, and join us in making a difference,” said Terry Cole, Burke & Herbert Bank Executive Vice President.
In addition to hosting the coin drive and matching donations up to $1,000, the Bank will designate Friday, April 8 as "Wear Blue Day" and encourage its customers and more-than 400 employees to wear BLUE as a visible commitment to preventing child abuse and supporting strong families and healthy children throughout Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth. The Bank will further use messaging on its social media sites and website to spread awareness for this worthy cause.
