Treasury Department Ends Sale of Paper Bonds

Electronic Bonds Available Online

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced that paper Series EE and Series I Savings Bonds will no longer be sold through financial institutions or mail-in orders after the end of this year.  Savings bonds are not going away though.   You may purchase electronic savings bonds online through treasurydirect.gov.

Burke & Herbert Bank will accept orders for paper bonds through December 27, 2011.   After that date, customers should use the TreasuryDirect web site for all savings bonds purchases.

Electronic savings bonds are secure and convenient to manage.   And, you no longer have to worry about misplacing, losing or storing savings bonds.    Customers with existing paper savings bonds may continue to redeem them at Burke & Herbert Bank.

Additional information about online savings bonds is available at treasurydirect.gov.
