Burke & Herbert Bank Scores for Kids

"Big Check" Presented to Most Valuable Kids

Burke & Herbert Bank Scores for KidsAlexandria, VA, June 3, 2016 – Burke & Herbert Bank is pleased to announce that at an event held at the Verizon Center on June 1, the Bank presented a check for $25,200 to Most Valuable Kids, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that provides access to sports and entertainment events to underserved kids. The award will enable more than 7,000 children throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to attend a sporting or similar event that otherwise would be out of reach.

The award was made as part of the  "Burke & Herbert Bank Scores for Kids" program, a season-long feature promoted during Washington Capitals television broadcasts on Comcast SportsNet.  For every goal scored by the Washington Capitals during the recent season, Burke & Herbert Bank pledged to donate $100 to MVK, Inc.  The Capitals went on to score a league-leading 252 goals, bringing the amount of the total donation to $25,200.

"We are pleased and proud to provide a significant assist to MVK's mission to help and foster social achievement among underserved kids in our area," said Terry Cole, Executive Vice President at Burke & Herbert Bank.  "As a local community bank, it is important to us to make a difference in the community not only through the banking products and services we provide but also through programs such as Scores for Kids that benefit a most-worthy cause."

Jamie Perry, National Director of MVK, Inc., said "What an incredible season the Capitals had and we feel so fortunate for the opportunity to partner with Burke & Herbert Bank. From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of all those we serve, thank you so much."

Representatives from Burke & Herbert Bank, MVK, and Comcast SportsNet gathered at the Washington Mystics game at the Verizon Center to celebrate the success of the Scores for Kids progam and see some of the results of their efforts.  Nearly 100 "most valuable kids" were able to enjoy the game as well.
