Security Measures in Place at Burke & Herbert Bank
At Burke & Herbert Bank, we are committed to protecting our customers’ personal and business account information. We continually monitor for unusual transaction activity to safeguard accounts, and employ sophisticated security measures designed to prevent unauthorized use of debit and credit cards. If, at any time, we determine that a customer’s account information is at risk, we will contact the customer, shut down the card, and re-issue a new card. While this may cause inconvenience for some customers, particularly during a busy shopping and travel season, rest assured that it is done with our customers’ security and best interest in mind.
Customers will not be held liable for any verified fraudulent transactions on their Burke & Herbert Bank Visa Debit Card, and all Burke & Herbert Bank Visa Credit Cards are covered by Visa’s Zero Liability policy.
What You Should Do
We understand you may be concerned about the security of your card data, and want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to protect all our customers’ personal and account information. While the Target data breach is very concerning, it is important to note that exposure of card data does not necessarily result in the fraudulent use of that data for every card involved.
There is no need for you to contact us to find out if your card was compromised; we will be communicating directly with anyone who may have been impacted. We do highly recommend, however, that all customers review their Burke & Herbert Bank account transactions regularly through Online Banking and/or their paper statements, and contact us immediately at 703-684-1655 if you notice any unauthorized transactions. For suspected fraud on a Burke & Herbert Bank Visa Credit Card or Burke & Herbert Bank Visa Rewards Credit Card, call 877-881-6018.
All questions about the Target REDcard should be directed to Target at 1.888.755.5856 (in the U.S.) or call collect 1.612.307.862 (from outside the U.S.).
Beware of Phishing Emails
We have learned of phishing e-mails being sent that appear to be from Target concerning compromised debit and credit cards. We recommend that customers refrain from clicking on any links in these emails and delete the emails immediately.
We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. If you have questions, please stop by any Burke & Herbert Bank branch or call us at 703-684-1655.
