Burke & Herbert Bank has been in business now for 169 years – more than any other bank in the Commonwealth.
169 Years of Serving Our Customers and the Community
Our story may have begun when John Woolfolk Burke and Arthur Herbert opened the Bank’s doors in 1852 in Old Town Alexandria to serve the financial needs of the community, but it certainly did not end there. Throughout its 169-year history, the Bank has served generations of individuals and businesses across the region and been an active and involved member of our local community. We’ve grown to over $3.5 billion in assets. Over the years, we expanded our presence across northern Virginia. And, this year, we opened our first offices in Fredericksburg, Virginia, adding a market headquarters office to serve as “home base” for our Commercial Relationship Managers in this region, as well as a new branch that opened its doors earlier this month to serve the greater Fredericksburg community.
169 Years of Growth and Evolution
The products and services delivered by Burke & Herbert Bank have grown and evolved too. Today, the Bank offers a full-array of financial services to meet the banking, borrowing, and investing needs of individual consumers and businesses. These include recently-enhanced digital banking services and tools for personal and business banking customers, a new private banking program to serve high-net-worth clients, loans and lines of credit designed specifically for small businesses, customized loan solutions and treasury management services for larger commercial customers, and a whole lot more.

Best of all, while we’ve expanded our offerings and deliver modern, convenient digital services, our commitment to personal service has not changed. We remain true to our roots and remain focused on delivering a level of service and personal attention that would make our founders proud.
