Lela Ashley Sends Financial Message to Peers in Winning Video
[Winchester, KY] – Lela Ashley, representing Burke & Herbert Bank, won first place in the American Bankers Association (ABA) Foundation’s Lights, Camera, Save! national video contest with her video, opens in a new windowLights, Camera, Save! Press Conference. This contest is a unique competition that encourages youth, aged 13-18, to use video to communicate the value of saving and using money wisely to inspire their peers and others to become lifelong savers.
Burke & Herbert Bank was one of 270 participating banks in 47 states who hosted local levels of the competition and selected a winner to represent their bank and compete on the national level. As the first-place winner, Ashley will receive a cash prize of $5,000 to fund her savings goal. She is a student at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Kentucky.
Ashley’s video was selected after two rounds of judging at the national level including public voting via Instagram. The video mimics a sports press conference while informing viewers that to be a “Financial MVP,” you need be prepared by having a budget and starting to save early. Ashley advanced to the national competition after winning the local Kentucky contest hosted by Burke & Herbert Bank. The Bank hosted local competitions in all five of its market states: Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
